Adoption agency seeks more people willing to give child a home
AN adoption agency has urged people in Devon to consider giving a child a home in the light of dwindling numbers coming forward.
Families for Children said the last few years had seen a decrease in the number of people considering adoption.
The independent agency, which currently has about 4,000 children on their waiting lists, specialises in finding homes for children who are in the care of local authorities. Most of the children they deal with have experienced extreme trauma in their early lives in the form of both physical and emotional abuse from their birth families.
David Holmes, chief executive of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering, said children desperately needed homes. He said: "It is sad that some children are simply unable to remain with their birth family, because of neglect, abuse or perhaps just because their parents are unable to cope."
