Battle against hunt legislation will go on
IN response to Dr John Salvatore's recent diatribe against me Stop trying to tell us hunt is management April 22, I would like to make two simple points.
Firstly, my position that the Hunting Act is deeply flawed legislation is widely supported by both pro and anti hunt organisations.
It is worth quoting from a statement put out in 2006 by Peter Bunce, a senior representative from anti-hunt organisation Protect Our Wild Animals. Mr Bunce wrote: "There is an anomaly in the Hunting Act which requires that if you flush deer out with dogs, "as soon as possible... the wild mammal is shot dead by a competent person".
"It is, apparently, illegal just to let them run off, as Mr Bradshaw says he does most days of his life now, and, of course, he should not be prosecuted for this harmless activity."
All parties, from the police to the CA to the anti-hunt organisations, accept that I should be able to continue using dogs to manage the wildlife on my farm. POWA has confirmed that this flawed law should not be enforced.
Secondly, Dr Salvatore states: "Mr Bradshaw claims only the sick and weak foxes were taken."
I have said no such thing. What I have claimed is the generally recognised fact that a fit fox will have a better chance of evading hounds than an unfit one.
It is a measure of how weak Dr Salvatore's argument is that he has to misrepresent my position.
Finally. No Dr Salvatore I will not stop standing up to one of the most idiotic pieces of legislation ever passed in this country.
