Bauza 'so happy' to be given a second chance at Exeter

SPANISH striker Guillem Bauza says he wants help get Exeter City promoted this season to repay the faith that has been shown in him after his injury woes.

Bauza, who signed for City in May 2011, has been blighted with a hamstring problem during his time at St James's Park, leaving him at one point this season to fear that his career could be over.

However, after staying positive and working hard in training, the former Swansea City player was rewarded with a starting place in City's last match away at Torquay United.

And he hopes now he can be involved with the team more often in a bid to help the Grecians get promoted back to League One.

"It has been a really tough few months for me, because I had an injury and then I picked up the same injury again at Bradford so it looked like I was never going to get better," said Bauza.

"But football has given me another opportunity and I can see the light now.

"When I played the last game I was so happy to be back in the team, because you are never happy and you never feel you are fit until you play again."

Bauza has only made 12 appearances for City this season, most of which have come as a substitute. So he admits it must have been a surprise to some people that he was given the nod against Torquay United.

However, he admits he is just glad to be back in the first team setup having feared the worse when his hamstring started causing him problems again in the autumn.

"With the history I have, of course when you get the injury the first few days you are always thinking about it.

"But as soon as you start working, you need to get your positivity back and you need to be optimistic and look forward and that is what I did.

"(Before Torquay), I was training back with the team for a while, but obviously I hadn't played for a some time. So yes, it could be a surprise for the people, but not for me."

Bauza has been travelling with the side for most of the away games while he has been out this season, trying to help the team as best he can.

He said he felt this was important to keep spirits high amongst the camp.

"Every time I had the chance to be there and to at least warm up with the team, even if I wasn't fit, I tried to be with them," he said. "I felt it was important for the spirit and the atmosphere of the team.

"But now it is no more time to be just a companion. I want to be part of the team and to play with them."

Bauza added that his motivation to play more is not set around personal goals, but helping Exeter City get promoted back to League One as thanks for the help the club has given him.

"The main aim for me is the team," added Bauza. "I think Exeter has helped me a lot in this year and a half I have been in contract with them.

"So for these next three months, I just want the team to be wherever we need to be at the end of the season. And that I think needs to be straight promotion or play-offs."
