LOCAL promoter Vernon Hutchings swapped conventional rows of seats for a cabaret-style layout for a large audience with tables and chairs around a dance floor. And it was a big success — eventually.

It took shy dancers, mostly ladies, half-an-hour to get up on their feet but when they plucked up enough courage how they loved it and by the end everyone had enjoyed a great night out.

The Beach Boys tribute band, resplendent in colourful shirts and garlands, perfectly captured the mood of the Sixties when the Beach Boys enjoyed classic hits such as Surfin' USA, I Get Around and Help Me Rhonda to name just a few in a tremendous musical legacy.

The band, led by superb lead singer, bass man Colin Bond, who once played alongside Meatloaf, captured the distinctive sound and handled the complex harmonies well. You could almost hear the fun in the sun, sand and surf of California!
