A POPULAR Mid Devon pub has reopened its doors to the public after it was unexpectedly closed when its owners retired.

Customers were shocked when The Five Bells Inn in Clyst Hydon closed just a few weeks ago. It is now being sold for £650,000, but will remain open until a sale is made and is being run by a management company.

The pub has a reputation for good quality food and has been listed in the Good Pub Guide for the last 10 years.

Graham Dove, who will be running the inn until it is sold, is hoping to keep up the high standards people have come to expect.

He said: "We are offering a home-cooked, fresh food menu, with classic pub food.

"I only arrived at the pub on Thursday night so there is a small menu to start with until I can build a bigger one."

The pub won a string of competitions in the early 2000's and reached the last six of a 2007 competition run by The Beef & Lamb Executive to find the best beef pie in England.
