EFFORTS to prevent further flooding on the Thorn Farm estate and Victoria Terrace in Mill Street, Ottery St Mary, are continuing.

Debris in a stream in Thorn Farm Way contributed to widespread flooding of homes on the estate.

While, a culvert blocked with silt and tree roots added to the problems in Mill Street.

The culvert is on the site of the old Cutler Hammer factory opposite Victoria Terrace.

Local councillor Roger Giles said costs are to recovered from new owners, Tesco which plan to build a supermarket on the site.

At Thorn Farm Way, soil from the stream continues to be piled up on the banks.

Cllr Giles said: "Some residents have pressed me to get it removed because it is unsightly, and because they are concerned that it will find its way back into the stream and increase future flood risk."

He has contacted the Environment Agency and is asking them to take responsibility for the stream, ensuring it does not get clogged up with debris again.
