CRAIG McAllister has secured a one-month loan deal with Coca-Cola League Two promotion hopefuls Rotherham United.

The Exeter City striker had hoped to force his way into first team contention following a four-week spell with Barnet in December.

But the frontman, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has not featured for the Grecians since playing in the 2-1 home defeat against Milton Keynes Dons at the end of August.

McAllister joins a Rotherham side who are currently in the play-off places in League Two.

And although City boss Paul Tisdale admits he has let McAllister go because he was not likely to feature in the next few games, he says he can still play a part in City's relegation scrap.

"He is not in my plans for the next couple of games and I don't see any reason why he shouldn't go. We get some money back into the squad and that's not a bad thing," said Tisdale.

"In theory he could come back in a month's time. It seemed the sensible thing to do with Barry Corr being available next Saturday.

"We have got a lot of competition. I hope Craig uses the next month for his own benefit as he has got to look after his future as well and give himself the best chance of work.

"He has a chance to put himself in the shop window and he can also get his game up to a competitive match pace, which would be important for us should he come back in mid-April for the final push.

"He could come back here, score a few goals and get another contract, but he is the same as anyone else in that he has got to look after his family and going to Rotherham gives him an opportunity to impress."

Tisdale is waiting to hear whether or not former Nottingham Forest left-back Joe Heath will join the Grecians until the end of the season.

"He hasn't quite decided yet," said Tisdale. "He has had the opportunity to look at one or two options so he is now looking at those. Maybe he'll be back next week and spend the next two months with us but maybe not."
