Bin fire prompts smoke alarm plea
A COUPLE needed treatment for smoke inhalation after a bin fire at their home.
Crews were called to a house at Pool Weir, Stokeinteignhead, after the fire broke out in a bin in the bedroom. A smoke alarm was fitted downstairs, but there wasn't one on the first floor.
One fire crew from Teignmouth went to the incident at the house on Tuesday at 5.35pm.
Watch commander Gary Holland said: "A woman had put her cigarette out in a bin, which caught fire. Her husband came upstairs and put the fire out. She was in shock and he was suffering from smoke inhalation."
He recommended people fit working smoke alarms on every floor of their home.
