BOOKWORM Billy Davey has been awarded a gold Booktrack award for reading 100 books.

The eight-year-old's mum, Lizzie, 39, from Poltimore, said books had always been part of her son's life, so working towards his Booktrack was a natural progression.

Lizzie said it took Billy between a year and 18 months to read the books. She said: "I suggested he start working towards his Booktrack award as he was reading so well at school.

"Although it was never a struggle, it took a little encouragement at first but about halfway through he needed no encouragement at all.

"I am very proud of him. He has also recognised what an achievement it is — when he was awarded his certificate and badge he said he was proud of himself.

"He's still an avid reader even now he's finished the award."

Billy received his award at Pinhoe Library.
