Exeter High Street has been closed to all traffic for several weeks while highways works are carried out.

While the street remains open to pedestrians, bus services are being diverted around the section between South Street and Queen Street.

As the Express & Echo revealed in November, it has been feared the road surface could collapse without engineering work to reinstate a collapsed drainage system. Substandard repairs after bomb damage during the Second World War have been blamed for the structural problems.

The works are expected to be finished by Easter.
