Michael Pring, 25, of Newman Road, Exeter, was sent to prison for a week after admitting stealing cheese and coffee worth £39.58 from Co-op in Fore Street on January 24. The offence also saw him in breach of a suspended sentence order. A new order was issued jailing him for 12 weeks suspended for 18 months.

Antonio Mota, 48, of North Street, Exmouth, pleaded guilty to causing a woman harassment, alarm or distress on November 3, 2011. He received a six-month conditional discharge and will have to pay £500 in compensation to his victim. No evidence was offered in relation to a charge of assault by beating.

Yunus Robinson, 43, of Farm Hill, Exeter, sent more than 109 text messages to a woman which he knew amounted to harassment. He pleaded guilty and received a 12-month conditional discharge as well as a restraining order. He will also have to pay £85 costs.

Christopher Duran, 24, of Pinhoe Road, Exeter, was found guilty of driving through a red light in Cowick Lane on August 2, 2011. He was fined £300, must pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £120. He also had three penalty points added to his licence and faced no separate penalty for failing to produce his licence which asked by a constable.

Claus De Meynier, 43, who gave an address of Midway, Exmouth, drove a motorbike in Marine Way in the town while disqualified from holding a licence on January 9. He pleaded guilty and a community order was made which will see him have to undergo supervision for a year and undertake 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also disqualified from holding a licence for three years. He faced no additional penalty for using a motorbike without insurance.

Lee Carswell, 44, of Cathedral Yard, Exeter, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on January 25. He was fined £50 with a victim surcharge of £15 but was told that time spent detained in the courthouse would be the penalty in lieu of the fine.

Simon Gibbins, 38, of Smythen Street, Exeter, was found to be in possession of 14.45 grams of diamorphine when stopped on October 16 last year in Market Street. He was committed to prison for six weeks suspended for a year with a supervision requirement which will see him undergo drug treatment. The drugs will be forfeited and there was no order for costs. An existing conditional discharge was revoked and he was jailed for two weeks suspended for a year, concurrent with the other sentence, for the original offence which was possession of methadone.

David Kirby, 52, of Summerway, Whipton, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman on Christmas Eve last year. He received a six-month conditional discharge and will have to pay £85. No compensation was ordered.

Richard West, 45, of Tip Hill, Ottery St Mary, was found guilty of assaulting two men and resisting a police constable in the execution of his duty during an incident on July 5, last year. He had denied the charges. He was fined a total of £1,050, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £850. No action was taken with regard to the breaches of two conditional discharges.

Jason Richards, 31, of Cridlake, Axminster, faced four charges relating to theft of champagne from Co-op in the East Devon town on four occasions. The bottles were worth around £500 in total. He received a 12-month conditional discharge and no compensation was ordered due to his limited means.

Stanley Hood, 25, of The Cricketers, Axminster, was sent to prison for 23 weeks for assaulting a woman in December. Magistrates said the offence was deemed to be serious as it involved the use of a knife to cause fear to the victim which has ongoing effects. A restraining order was also issued.

Malcolm Lee, 42, of Shooting Marsh, Exeter, was fined for failing to stop for a red light in Heavitree Road, Exeter, on July 12, 2011. He was fined £45, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and had his licence endorsed with three points.

Adam Welsman, 24, of Phear Avenue, Exmouth, admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order, by observing a curfew between December 23 to December 24, 2011. He was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay costs of £60.

Emma Doulin, 34, of Langton Gardens, Exeter, was convicted of driving an Audi A3 on Cowley Bridge Road, Exeter, at a speed exceeding 30 miles per hour. She was ordered to pay a fine of £115, costs of £60 and a victim surcharge of £15. Her licence was endorsed with three points.

Paul Hawkins, 47, of Mount View, Colyton Hill, Colyton, admitted failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions that he was in receipt of earnings in excess of the permitted amount that would affect the Carers Allowance. He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months. There was no order for costs.

Michelle Goodfellow, 43, of Wynford Road, Stoke Hill, Exeter, was charged with dropping a cigarette butt in Guildhall, Exeter. The case was proven in her absence. She was fined £100, ordered to pay costs of £140 and a victim surcharge of £15.

Gavin Richards, 31, of Lloyds Crescent, Exeter, was sent to prison for 28 days after pleading guilty to two offences. He admitted the theft of copper wire belonging to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on December 5, 2011, and entering a building and stealing a bike valued at £400. There was no order for costs.

Daniel Thorne, 23, of Prince Charles Road, Exeter, pleaded guilty to five charges of making an indecent image of a child and one offence of possessing indecent photographs of a child. He was given a community order for three years and a sexual offences prevention order was also made. He was ordered to pay costs of £85.

Tyrone Baines, 40, of Attwyll Avenue, Exeter, admitted keeping on vehicle on Margaret Road, Exeter, when it was unlicensed. He was fined £60, ordered to pay vehicle excise back duty £17.50 and costs of £60.

Steve Bedwell, 49, of Ashleigh park, Bampton, Tiverton, was ordered to pay vehicle excise duty of £485.42. It relates to keeping a vehicle on a public road, named as Bampton Town car park, which was unlicensed. The offence took place on May 21, 2011.
