THE clock has gone back 20 years at a Devon coffee shop — with 1988 prices to match.

New Creation, of Bampton Street, Tiverton, is marking its 20th birthday on October 4.

Maureen Rendell, one of the trustees of the shop, said: "We have copies of the very first menu and although it has changed little over the years we can see that prices have gone up by nearly four times. When we opened, a cup of coffee was just 25p."

So on Saturday morning they will be serving drinks and cakes at old-fashioned tariffs.

"It's a way of saying 'thank you' to all our loyal customers who have supported us over the years," Mrs Rendell said. "Without them the shop would not be here.

"Unfortunately, we can not do the same in the bookshop end, although customers will find that we try to keep our prices as competitive as possible."

New Creation is a charitable trust which sells Christian books, CDs, gifts, etc as well as a wide range of cards for all occasions. It is staffed mainly by volunteers drawn from many churches in and around Tiverton and is there to serve the community in what ever way it can.

"We will also be holding a short thanksgiving service at 1pm when we will be giving thanks to God for the way he has guided and upheld us. We hope as many friends and volunteers as possible will be able to join us," Mrs Rendell continued. "And we will be serving birthday cake after the service."

New Creation has recently launched its own website at www.newcreationtiverton.org.uk.
