Campus hit by outbreak of mumps virus
Students at the University of Exeter have been told to stay away from lectures after contracting mumps.
NHS Devon and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) are working with the university to minimise the outbreak, which has seen a total of 21 cases reported since the start of term at the Streatham campus.

Doctors warned the 16 students suffering from the illness to stay away from lectures for five days to prevent it spreading.
Other students have been advised to ensure they are vaccinated against the virus. Symptoms include swelling of the glands, headache and fever.

In the letter to all students, Dr H.S. Arshi said they were dealing with a "notable" number of mumps cases at the Streatham campus.
He added: "I have checked with other campuses and there doesn't seem to be a significant problem elsewhere."
Dr Femi Oshin from the South West HPA said: "We know that mumps can spread quickly from person to person which is why we often see cases in close-knit communities such as schools and universities."
