CITY residents will be able to pay their respects to fallen soldier and police community support officer Mark Marshall at his funeral tomorrow.

Full details of the route to be taken by the cortege have now been released and members of the public are invited to join the serviceman's friends and family in bidding him farewell.

Up to 500 mourners are expected to pack Belmont Chapel, in Western Way, Exeter, for the service at 11.30am.

The 29-year-old Territorial Army soldier, of 6th Battalion The Rifles based at Wyvern Barracks in Exeter, was killed in an explosion while on a routine foot patrol near Forward Operating Base Inkerman in Helmand province last month.

Following his death, the Echo reported how the Prime Minister paid tribute to the serviceman and described him as a "hero" who had shown "incredible bravery".

Rifleman Marshall joined the police in 2006 and worked initially in Exeter's Priory ward before serving with policing teams in Countess Wear and Topsham.

In recent days, two other Devon-based soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.

Former Exeter hotel worker, Rifleman Carlo Apolis, 28, from A Company 4 Rifles, was fatally wounded during small arms fire near a patrol base north east of Sangin.

And on Sunday, Cpl Stephen Thompson from Bovey Tracey was killed by a roadside bomb.

Following Rifleman Marshall's service, the procession will travel via Heavitree Road at around 12.10pm to Middlemoor roundabout at 12.15pm, before heading toward Countess Wear roundabout at 12.20pm. All timings are approximate.

Members of the public are invited to join the service at Belmont Chapel but are asked to arrive by 10.20am at the latest.
