CHRIS Almond from the Met Office in Exeter has had a hair cut with a bit of a twist to raise funds for the organisation's chosen charity WaterAid.

Rather than going to the barbers' for a regular short back and sides, Chris had a weather related hair tattoo, voted for by staff, shaved into his head.

Chris said: "I'm just glad my haircut has helped some of the 783 million people who don't have access to safe water in this world."

Chris has already raised almost £400 for WaterAid, which would be enough to buy eight hand pumps. For families in developing countries, drawing water up through a brand-new pump not only keeps out insects, but it also gives them access to clean and safe water.

Rob Varley, Operations and Services Director at the Met Office, said: "We're really pleased to be supporting WaterAid as our chosen charity.

"Access to clean water is something we take for granted in the UK, so it's very encouraging that Met Office employees want to make a difference for the one in eight people around the world who don't share this luxury."

There were a number of weird and wonderful suggestions made for the hair cut, ranging from the Met Office logo to a silhouette of Michael Fish.

However, the most popular option was for Chris to have a representation of warm and cold fronts shaved across his head and a thunder cloud at the back.

The hair tattooing was donated by the Loft gent's barbers in Exeter's Okehampton Street.
