EXETER City remain four points adrift of safety in Coca-Cola League One following a goalless draw with Southend United.

James Dunne was unlucky not to have scored the winner when his fierce volley was tipped on to the crossbar by Steve Mildenhall.

Adam Stansfield headed home the rebound, but the goal was ruled out for off-side.

The closest Southend came to making the breakthrough was on 14 minutes when Scott Vernon shot tamely at Paul Jones when he should have done better.

Richard Logan came off the bench and had two chances to snatch the winner for the visitors. But both his headers were straight at Mildenhall.
