STARS of Exeter City spread a bit of festive joy to youngsters spending the run-up to Christmas in hospital.

The footballers took time out of their busy training schedule to visit the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital's Bramble Ward, together with the club's mascot Grecian the Lion.

Danny Coles, Tommy Doherty, Jamie Cureton, Elliott Frear and Tom Nichols handed out presents and signed shirts while touring the ward. They were joined by the Build a Bear mascot from the High Street store. The children's ward has 45 beds and cares for children up to the age of 16.

A spokeswoman for the RD&E said: "No one wants to be in hospital over the Christmas period, but it can be especially difficult for children and their families.
