Close shave for Crocker as Tivvy lose
TIVERTON'S winning run in Western Counties West came to an end after four matches when they went down 30-3 at Truro.
Coach Glenn Crocker promised his players that if they won four in a row he would shave off his distinctive lamb-chop sideburns. Crocker remains hirsute for a little bit longer.
The Tivvy chief was forced to reshuffle his side after losing Ollie King to a broken jaw on Friday.
That involved putting himself and fellow veteran Keith Sampson on the bench for the fixture.
But despite the disruption Tiverton were fully in the game for the first 38 minutes, before Truro's Scott Martin plonked over a penalty.
With an hour played it was still only 8-0, then it all started to go wrong for the away side.
"We had to make a couple of forced changes — Adrian Jary and Steve Cockram went off — then Ollie Price got sent to the sin-bin," said Crocker.
"I ended up going in to finish the game at hooker and what was a disrupted side before we started lost its way. We missed tackles and suffered because of it."
Three tries — two from paceman Luke Trescothick — sent Truro scuttling over the horizon long before Jimmy Atkins kicked a last-minute penalty for Tiverton.
