EXETER City Swimming Club coach Jon Randall was impressed by the standards at the annual primary school gala in the city last week.

Children in years four, five and six from 12 schools around Exeter competed at the Pyramids Leisure Centre.

Randall was there on the lookout for new talent and afterwards he said: "I spotted quite a few good swimmers who we will be inviting to have trials for the club."

Exeter School took the boys' trophy, with St Nicholas School the runners-up.

Walter Daw took the girls' trophy ahead of Exeter School.

After collecting the most points across all events, Exeter School were awarded the silver shield for overall winner, with St Nicholas second and Alphington School third.

Broadclyst and Stoke Canon entered for the first time this year and did extremely well.
