Community News: St Thomas
ANYONE thinking of proposing in the autumn might want to get in touch with the Emmanuel Church in Okehampton Road.
The church is having a special week of fundraising and mission and, being near the railway, has come up with an idea for a very special proposal.
The east end of the church is clearly visible from the line which goes from Exeter St David's to Dawlish, Newton Abbot, Plymouth and beyond.
So from Tuesday, October 1 until October 4, the highest bidder for a day can have any message at all displayed on a large banner attached to the church.

Rev Anne Dowdeswell, team vicar for St Thomas, St Andrew's and Emmanuel, said: "We thought that each day through this special week we could have a different banner.
"It would be used by the highest bidder so you could have your shop advertised or you could have your proposal of marriage up there."
The week's festival is being called the Life and Times of Emmanuel Church which was first dedicated in 1899.
Rev Dowdeswell said: "If people ask where the church is they immediately know if you say across from the chip shop.
"But they would not know where the chip shop is if you said across from Emmanuel Church."
The week will feature displays of the church's history and the organisers would love to know why the church has a beautiful stained glass window dedicated to Scott of the Antarctic.
There will also be performances by choirs and school groups throughout the week.
The church will also be filled with flowers and the celebrations will be attended by civic dignitaries.
To get in early with a bid for the banner call 01392 437486 and leave a message, similarly if you have any knowledge of the window dedication.
