County council wins green prize
AN award for sustainable energy has been won by Devon County Council.
It comes from Ashden, one of the world's leading green energy awards scheme.
The county's success was announced by the Prince of Wales at a ceremony in London on Thursday.
The council is boosting a green rural regeneration in Devon by stimulating both supply and demand for renewable energy.
As a multi-partner project it has led to renewable energy installations in small and medium-sized enterprises, community organisations and domestic properties. The scheme has saved about 1,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year and created 55 jobs and safeguarded 16 more.
The local authority awards are supported by The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.
