County green schemes earn top honour
DEVON is proving it's at the forefront when it comes to promoting greener ways of living.
A scheme run by the county council called Renewable Energy for Devon (RE4D) has won a prize in a South West green energy awards ceremony.
The council has been recognised as the 'most pro-active local authority' due to the work of RE4D, in addition to other activities to reduce carbon emissions.
The awards, organised by Regen South West, aim to showcase the best technologies and projects which harness the power of renewable energy sources such as the sun, wind or tides.
National Trust property, Castle Drogo, near Okehampton, took the 'best renewable energy system' prize for its biomass boiler.
Exeter company Sun Gift Solar was awarded the best installer of the year' prize for its design of renewable energy technologies including solar hot water and under-floor heating systems.
