The Make, Do and Mend ladies were out in force last night making Exeter beautiful. To celebrate the second birthday of the group they displayed their knitted work across the city.

The group is a community based project which brings likeminded people together with a vintage feel. They encourage each other and challenge themselves with these projects by teaching & keeping traditional crafts alive.

The group started two years ago because there was nothing like it in Exeter. They integrate recycling into their projects and like to bring crafts to the younger generation.

The group meet twice a month, but is normally fully booked so if this sounds like something you would like to get involved in you should book in advance.

The group wanted to let Exeter know what they’re about, so they presented their knitted work, by putting a scarf on the Blue Boy in Princesshay, a woolly jumper on a bollard and flags on a fence.

Early risers were greeted by this humorous experiment, and it came at a good time seeing how frosty it was.

Josie Mary, the coordinator of the group said “The group wanted to bring happiness to people, so we put scarfs on trees and statues so on these cold winter mornings it could bring a smile to people’s faces.”
