CREDITON hope to welcome winger Matt Shapland back into their starting line-up ahead of their match with top of the table Teignmouth on Saturday.

The Kirton play the Cornwall and Devon League leaders at Blagdon having had last weekend off, following Wessex's decision to pull out of their Devon Intermediate Cup game on Saturday.

Crediton's joint-head coach Brian Sherrell said he was disappointed not to have had a game, but said it will gave a few of his players a chance to get back to full fitness.

"It won't have done us any harm to have had a rest," he said. "It is not ideal preparation (for Teignmouth), but they are a few players who have picked up knocks, so I expect us to be at full strength next week."

Sherrell added that Rob Milton will be out with a broken hand, but said the return of Shapland, who had a run out for Kirton's third team on Saturday, would be a big boost.

"He is a match winner, there is no question about that. And of course, it is not only that we miss him, it is the fact that we have got limited cover for that position (on the left wing)."

Teignmouth go into the match on good form having won nine of their ten games this season. However, Sherrell believes Crediton's own league position is slightly false and they are capable of causing an upset.

"We are looking to break out of that nearly mode," he said "We are almost there. It is just a case of executing at the right times and playing in the right areas. "Teignmouth are very much a workman-like side, but they have recruited heavily from Newton Abbot, so again they have got players with good experience from a higher leagues.

"I actually think despite our lowly position we are playing better than last year. But I think the standard of the league has improved significantly if I'm honest.

"I won't make any bold predictions about a victory, but for sure we will make life very difficult for them and I wouldn't be surprised if we came out with something out of the game."

Thanks to the walk-over given to them by Wessex, Crediton will now face either Kingsbridge or Tiverton in the second round of the Devon Intermediate Cup.

Both sides will provide stern tests for Kirton. Tiverton are currently in the top four of the Cornwall and Devon League, while Kingsbridge play in the division above (the Western Counties West).

Sherrell said he doesn't mind which side they get in the next round, but added that they would be taking the match seriously.

"Either one (fixture) would be tricky." he said. "We don't seem to be in the promotion hunt or where I would like us to be in the league at this stage so the cup will be something of a bonus for us. We won't be throwing any fixtures away if you like, we will be competing in both competitions."

The tie is set to be played on November 30.
