ANIMAL rights protesters took to the streets of Exeter to campaign against cruelty.

Armed with placards and leaflets, they spent several hours collecting signatures from shoppers.

They were protesting about the treatment of animals in slaughterhouses. They asked for people to sign cards calling for CCTV to be installed in abattoirs.

The protesters included ten-year-old Tom Donnelly, who dressed as a sheep to help raise awareness of the plight of some farmyard animals.
