QUIRKY items found stuffed inside a matchbox for a competition included a peppercorn.

Janet Johns, of Nana's Toy Chest in Cullompton, challenged pupils across the Culm Valley to see how many things they could fit inside a matchbox — and the winner was Deven Wright.

The five-year-old, who attends Clyst Hydon Primary School, managed to squeeze in 62 items.

Mrs Johns presented Deven with a make your own puppet kit. She said: "The children were certainly inventive."

Deven's father Daniel, who lives at New Street, said: "She put a peppercorn, a grain of coffee and some blossom inside."
