COUNTY council and health care bosses have issued reassurance to those people using their services not to worry about horse meat contamination in their meals.

However, Devon County Council, the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in Exeter and the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, which is in charge of all community hospitals across Mid and East Devon, have all confirmed that they use suppliers who source their meat locally. They have confirmed that they have received assurance from suppliers that no meat product contains horse.

A county council spokesman said: "Schools make their own catering arrangements, but those which have chosen to use the council's catering supplier, Devon Norse, have been given assurances that its meat products have full traceability and are sourced locally."
