Police in Exeter are investigating a rather odd theft which was committed in the High Street overnight between Monday 4 to Tuesday 5 February.

A rack of shoes had been left unattended outside a shoe shop and by the following morning they had been stolen.

However, the shoes will be of little use to the thief as they consist entirely of right footed ladies shoes and children’s snow boots.

Officers are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the theft or may know where the stolen shoes are.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The stolen footwear will be of little use to anyone without the matching shoe.

"The opportunist thief who stole them probably didn’t realise they were not in pairs. As they are useless, we appeal for them to be returned to the store"

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference DE/13/1117.

“I happened to walk past this rack earlier in the evening, obviously whoever locked the shop must have forgotten them...

I imagine the person who took them did so because they thought it was a 'joke' rather than because they wanted some new shoes...probably a student/drunkard.”
