BLUES, jazz, swing, boogie-woogies and folk music are all set to entertain revellers at a fundraising bash in a Culm Valley village next month.

Billed as a musical extravaganza, the event at Magelake Pavilion, Uffculme, will boost proceeds for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and it promises to have something for everyone.

The show is being organised by a man who has first-hand experience of the trust after he seriously injured himself in November last year.

James Alford fell from the roof of a shipping container store in a field on the outskirts of the village, splitting open the back of his head and fracturing his pelvis.

"The nearest land ambulance was more than 40 minutes away but the air ambulance arrived quickly," he said.

"I was already safely delivered to the accident and emergency department at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital before the land crew would have even reached me. Organising this musical evening is my way of raising funds to say thank you."

Entertainment will be provided by acts including Jason Baxster's Little Big Band, Rocket 88, Cross Boarder, The Bottle Top Boogie Band and Winnow.

As well as organising the event, James, who has now almost fully recovered, will also be playing the drums throughout the evening.

All the musicians are donating their time for free and there will also be a raffle, with prizes kindly donated by friends and businesses of Uffculme.

Doors will open on Saturday, March 16, at 7.30pm and entry costs £5 on the door, with £2 from each ticket sold donated to the charity. Call 01884 849035 or email jimus@btinternet.com for tickets.
