TEENAGER Charlie Rowe has  been banned from a city centre  pub following  a violent outburst  in which he ripped out a beer  pump and threw it behind the  bar — after drinking 13 pints of  cider.

Rowe, 19, of Thornpark Rise,  Exeter, admitted damaging a  beer pump belonging to John  Gandy’s in Gandy Street, Exeter, on Valentine’s Day.

Exeter Magistrates’ Court  was told that he and a friend had  been out drinking to patch up a  friendship.

They had gone into John  Gandy’s and asked for a drink  that was not on offer there.

Rowe became aggressive to  the barmaid when he was refused his request.

He swore at her, telling her he  could be “evil”  and threatening  to hurt her.

He also threatened to cause  damage inside the pub.

Rowe then lunged forward  over the bar and grabbed a hand  pump, ripping it off and throwing it behind the bar.

He then ran from the pub and  staff called police.

Officers arrived and Rowe  was found a short distance  away. He was drunk and unable  to walk properly.

Prosecutor Karen Ball told  the court that in interview Rowe  said he had drunk 13 pints of  cider and could not remember  being in the pub.

She said Rowe told officers  that he understood that the barmaid would have felt threatened  and distressed by his behaviour  and he was shocked at what he  had done.

Mitigating, James Rickard  told the court Rowe, who is a  chef at a cafe in Sowton, has no  previous convictions.

He said he was willing to pay  compensation but that an  amount for the damage had not  been sought by the CPS.

He said Rowe, who lives with  his mother, has no recollection  of the incident.

Magistrates banned Rowe  from entering John Gandy’s for  two years.

They also ordered that he pay  £265 in fines and costs.

Magistrates expressed concern over Rowe’s behaviour,  telling him: “Thirteen pints of  cider is ridiculous.

“If you want a short life then  carry on with what you are doing to yourself. Think about  it.”
