PROLIFIC striker James Blake smashed home his 16th goal of the season as Elmore thumped St George 4-1.

Matt Harvey, Brett Worbey and Tom Edworthy were also on the scoresheet as the Eagles recorded their ninth win of the Western League Division One campaign.

And it was a deserved victory for Simon Harder's men, who had dominated from the outset. Harvey, Worbey and Blake had all gone close before the latter broke the deadlock in the opening stages.

Some poor defending allowed the visitors an equaliser on the half-hour, before Edworthy swung the game back in Elmore's favour with a close range strike shortly after.

St George started the second half brightly, and Eagles centre back Gavin Meacham was in outstanding form to keep them at bay before late goals from Harvey and Worbey sealed maximum points for the hosts.

The victory moves Elmore up into tenth, though still 10 points behind Shrewton, who they face this weekend.

But with a run in which includes eight home games and only three away, Harder will be hoping his side can climb higher before May.
