East Devon author Hilary Mantel wins prestigious literary prize
Internationally acclaimed East Devon author Hilary Mantel has won another prestigious literary prize.
The 60-year-old writer, who lives in Budleigh Salterton, has been announced as the winner of the Costa Book of the Year for her novel Bring Up the Bodies.
The book has already clinched a top accolade - the 2012 Man Booker Prize.
It is the second work in a historical fiction Henry VIII trilogy – the sequel to Wolf Hall which won the 2010 Man Booker Prize and the prequel to The Mirror and the Light which she is currently writing.

The judging panel, which included Dame Jenni Murray, actors Jenny Agutter and Sophie Ward, broadcaster Katie Derham, poet Daljit Nagra, novelist DJ Taylor, comedian Mark Watson, writer Marcus Sedgwick and author Wendy Holden, unanimously voted for Mantel out of a choice of four authors.
The competition involves five category winners competing for the £30,000 prize so authors of different genres including poetry and biography, go head-to-head.
