Echo job adverts lead to new career beginnings
A GROUP of employees at a Devon-based financial claims management company are celebrating new careers thanks to a recruitment campaign with the Express & Echo.
EMCAS, who have recently been ranked as one of the top 150 businesses in Devon and Cornwall, have taken on more than 35 new starters in just over a month.
It brings the total number of people employed across the firm's three offices in Torquay, Paignton and Exeter to 293.
The company, which helps people from across the country to reclaim money when they have been mis-sold financial products such as savings and investments, endowments and payment protection insurance (PPI), has experienced rapid growth over the last 12 months. That growth looks set to continue as the business is currently in the process of planning expansion into Taunton.

Dale Strawbridge, one of the successful recent applicants to start work at the company's Horizon House offices on Exeter Business Park, said: "I was made redundant from my last job and had struggled to find a career with earning potential.
"When I saw the job advertised in the Express & Echo I applied and am now thoroughly enjoying it here. EMCAS really do look after their staff."
While the development and career opportunities EMCAS provides its staff are important, the business is also committed to encouraging the social and community aspects of employment. To that end the company's dedicated social committee have been hard at work organising staff parties, including the EMCAS annual awards dinner, as well as charity initiatives.
Recruitment advisor Elaine McCarthy said: "Rather than just a job, new recruits can look forward to a career promising continual training and development and a culture that has resulted in more than 50 people being promoted in the last 12 months alone. In their colleagues, they can see first-hand the opportunities available to them and thanks to this, I can honestly say that in my 11 years working in commercial recruitment and training I have never known a company with so many staff happy in their jobs."
One such success story is Laura Crowley, who started as a sales agent at EMCAS and has since been promoted twice within the space of three years. She said: "It's great to have been recognised for my efforts and to have been given excellent opportunities to develop my career. EMCAS have shown me that there are some claims management companies out there who genuinely want to make a difference.
"I love the fact that what I do makes a difference to the people we help. To coin an EMCAS phrase – I'm a financial crusader."
While their recruitment drive continues in earnest, the next target for EMCAS is to reach a 'Star Status' rating in the Sunday Times Best Companies rankings, having been recognised as 'One to Watch' in both 2011 and 2012.
