Ex-Busted frontman to play Exeter gig
EX-BUSTED frontman Charlie Simpson is set to perform in the city with his new band Fightstar.
The 24-year-old singer was excited about the gig on Thursday, at the Lemon Grove at Exeter University.

TUNING UP: Charlie Simpson, formerly of Busted, is bringing his new band Fightstar to the Lemon Grove at Exeter University
It is not the first time he has played in Exeter, and he said he had fond memories of the city — despite not being on top form during his last visit.
“We played in Exeter before a few years ago and it was a shame because I was really ill,” said Charlie.
“The crowd was on really good form but I was in a terrible state.
“We actually had to cancel the following night’s show as I was so poorly.
“So this time round I promise to be bursting with energy and put on a blinding set.
“I’m really looking forward to Thursday, and want everyone who comes to have a good time.”
Four-piece rock band Fightstar formed in 2003 and have, through constant touring and hard work, made a big impact on the music scene.
But fans expecting them to sound anything like pop-friendly Busted — who sold more than three million albums worldwide and had four number one singles — will be disappointed.
Fightstar are influenced by groups like Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails, and promise a heavy guitar and vocal mix.
“Being on tour involves a lot of waiting around and is pretty tiring,” said Charlie. “But being on stage playing music is the best thing in the world. If only we could be doing that all the time.”
Fightstar have so far released three albums, including the recent Be Human, which the boys plan to re-release with extra tracks in February next year.
“We will be showcasing some of our new songs in Exeter,” said Charlie. “It will be a first-listen opportunity for fans.”
His former Busted bandmate Matt Willis recently posted on his Twitter website that he would like a Busted reunion because the pop group have “unfinished business”.
However, Charlie said that was the last thing on his mind.
“I don’t know what Matt’s talking about,” he said. “It’s a load of rubbish.
“Busted feels like a different lifetime, it’s a world away from the music I’m making at the moment.”
Thursday’s gig starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £12.50. To book call 01392 263518 or visit www.exeterboxoffice.com
