LUKE Venner has been promoted by accountants Bishop Fleming after coming third in the UK in the latest Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency exam.

Having joined as a trainee in 2005, Luke worked in the firm's audit and accounts team before moving to the firm's business recovery and insolvency team.

He qualified as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants last year.

Bishop Fleming chairman Jerry O'Sullivan said: "We are hugely proud of what Luke has achieved. Having been a key member of our Exeter office team, Luke will now take on a role encompassing business development covering our Exeter and Torquay offices.

Rathbone Investment Management has appointed Mike Townsend as investment director in its Exeter office.

He joins from Coutts and will be responsible for managing portfolios on behalf of clients, charities, trusts and pension funds.

Sarah Tobey, regional director of Rathbones' Exeter office, said: "The length of Mike's career, his expertise in investment and, importantly, his deep understanding of what private clients expect from their wealth manager, mean he will be an excellent addition to the team."

Repairs and maintenance specialist Lovell has appointed Richard Jackson as operations manager for its Exeter office at the Merlin Business Park, where he heads up its operations in the South West of England and South Wales.

He joins from property services company Ian Williams Group, where he was a regional manager, having also previously worked as senior operations director for Kier Group.

Simon Medler, managing director for the Lovell Repairs & Maintenance business, said: "Richard brings strong maintenance experience and a commitment to delivering exceptional service to our customers."

Ruby Anugwom has joined Stephens Scown LLP as a specialist immigration lawyer, based in the firm's Exeter office.

She joins from the Law Associates in London, where she advised on immigration and nationality matters.

Ruby qualified as a barrister and solicitor in Nigeria. She came to the UK in 2005 as an overseas qualified lawyer and was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in March 2011.

She said: "I am delighted to be part of one of the best law firms in the South West. Stephens Scown has a solid reputation and expertise in immigration matters and I am very happy to join the team and look forward to assisting new and existing clients with their immigration matters."

Managing partner Robert Camp added: "Immigration is an area which has grown in significance for the firm, and Ruby will play an important role in that continued growth."

Ian Avery has joined Exeter and London-based private bank Arbuthnot Latham & Co as a chartered wealth planner.

Head of wealth planning Ian Scott said: "Ian's appointment in the Exeter office continues Arbuthnot Latham's determination to build a wealth planning unit based on the highest-level of wealth planners in the industry."
