Exe rout Marjon to return to summit
Promotion-chasing Exe are back on top of the West Clubs Women's Hockey League following a 6-0 home Premier One win over Devon rivals UC Plymouth Marjon at St Peter's School.
Exe head to basement side Bristol University on Saturday odds-on to top the regional women's top flight at the halfway point of the season ahead of the midwinter break.
Kirsty Crocker's Exeter-based side made short shrift of an understrength Plymouth side at St Peter's, scoring three times in each half. Becky Fagg (two), Ali Kerridge, Claire Whitworth, Laura Allen and Kelly Luscombe were on target for the Blues, who are aiming to return to Conference West following last season's relegation.
Exe's eighth League win of the season put them two points ahead of second-placed Clifton, who have a game in hand after their home game against Lydney was postponed.

It was a winning weekend for Exe as the second team – who also feature in the regional top flight – triumphed 1-0 at cross-city rivals Isca thanks to Jackie Shute's 53rd-minute penalty corner winner, following a superb solo run by Bridie Marlow.
It was Exe II's first League win of the season and puts them within two points of Plymouth and Firebrands, who meet at Marjon on Saturday.
Last Sunday, Sue McGivern and Charlotte Howard (two) scored as Exe beat Gloucester City in an England Hockey Masters Cup opener.
Exe are hoping to make it third time lucky in the national veterans' competition this season, after being second in the past two terms.
Isca top the men's regional Davis Wood Hockey League by three points despite a 4-2 home Premiership defeat by second-placed Team Bath Buccaneers A at University of Exeter Sports Park. Skipper Simon Tremlett and Sam Palfrey were both on target for promotion-chasing Isca, whose unbeaten run was ended at the tenth match stage.
Isca's final League game of the first half of the season is away to tenth-placed Taunton Vale on December 15.
University of Exeter A moved within four points of the leaders following a 7-0 home win over bottom club ECV Hornets, while Taunton gained their fourth away point of the season with a 1-1 draw at Bristol side Robinsons.
Bristol University edged a point and place ahead of sixth-placed Plymouth Marjon in the top flight following a 5-2 win at Marjon.
There are two more Saturdays scheduled for regional men's hockey league action before the mid-season break.
