Exeter City Council defends 'modest' rise in tax
Exeter City Council has voted to raise council tax in the coming financial year. The decision to raise the levy was announced at a meeting of Exeter's executive on Tuesday night.
Council leader Pete Edwards revealed the city will increase council taxes by 2%, which will raise an extra £96,000 for the authority. Councillor Edwards said it was a modest increase.

He told the meeting: "Most homes are in council tax band C, which would mean they would be paying an extra £2.20 a year.
That works out about five pence a week, which I think is quite modest."
