Exeter HMV store survives as 66 others face closure

Staff in Exeter have escaped the axe in the first round of store closures announced by administrators of HMV.

Around 930 jobs are under threat at 66 of the stricken music and DVD retailer's 220 stores in the UK. The affected stores are due to close over the next two months and will continue to trade in the meantime.

Nick Edwards, joint administrator at Deloitte, said: "As part of our ongoing review of HMV's financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure.

"This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business' future as a going concern.

HMV went into administration on January 15. Last week 190 redundancies were announced across the company's head office and distribution network.
