An Exeter business has been ranked as one of the fastest growing in Britain by making it onto the shortlist for this year's Growing Business Awards.

Crowdcube, the innovative business finance website based at the Innovation Centre, is competing against Everyclick, Funding Circle, Made.com, Nucleus Financial and Shutl for the title of Digital Champion of the Year Award, which recognises businesses whose technology is leading change in their industry or the wider business and social landscape.

By enabling them to pitch directly to thousands of armchair investors, Crowdcube has revolutionised how start-up and early stage businesses raise finance in the UK and in the US. So far it has raised £4.375 million of investment for 29 businesses since July 2011.

Now in their 14th year, the Growing Business Awards, held in association with Lloyds Bank, highlight some of the country's most exciting, innovative and scale-able business models and have previously celebrated companies such as Innocent Smoothies, Autonomy and LoveFilm. A total of 53 businesses and entrepreneurs will be hoping to secure one of the 10 awards up for grabs at the ceremony in London next month.

David Richardson, regional managing director of mid markets for Lloyds Bank, said: "The breadth and quality of this year's shortlist is astounding and it's great to see the South West represented amongst the UK's most exciting and promising businesses.

"The phenomenal growth they have achieved over recent years shows that businesses can thrive rather than just survive during a recession."
