Exeter cafe which was told "major improvements were necessary" is now five out of five
A cafe which had been given a one out of five food hygiene rating has been upgraded to a five out of five today (Monday, March 4) following a fresh inspection.
The Real McCoy Cafe in McCoys Arcade had been inspected in December and told major improvements were necessary. Owner Nathan Gregory said he took that report very seriously and took immediate steps to remedy the situation.

He said: “We have a new chef in place and a whole new system of food management.
“We were reinspected today and we are delighted to now be a five out of five establishment. Many of the problems related to paperwork but there were other issues and we are now very proud of our kitchen and our high hygiene standards.”

“@ herbert69
if you stopped thinking that everything a journalist writes is the WHOLE story you might take the time to look at the food standards website to see that it is scored in 3 parts 2 of them are missing from richard birches articles about all of the premises named in his last piece of uninformed schoolboy journalism. it is possible for a piece of paperwork not signed to drop 3 sometimes 4 stars.”

“@Auntymable............I agree that an inspection is a useful tool for business, but the following was the reason they got one of the lowest possible ratings....." a bag of rocket leaves and a tub of double cream was found on the premises past their sell-by date (November 23 for the rocket and November 29 for the cream), it is an offence to sell or expose for sale food with an expired use-by date, stock must be checked daily; the door seal to a freezer was mouldy – clean and maintain; hard contact surfaces such as taps and handles were found to be in a dirty condition throughout the kitchen " Taken from Express and Echo article dated 27th Feb 2013.
Surely you don't need an audit to tell you to clean the kitchen and not stock out of date food?????”

“@Herbert69.......its the same with any audit, you can't improve unless your are shown where the failings are........Well done Real McCoy!”

“It seems a shame they only chose to do the improvements after they were caught by the Council in an inspection and then exposed for poor practice & basic hygiene issues.
Rather a case of "Closing the gate after the horse has bolted".”
