Exeter man is jailed after committing six offences in six weeks
Liam Bruce, 20, of St David's Hill, Exeter, was sent to prison for a total of five months after changing his plea and admitting his role in a number of offences. He stole numerous food and personal hygiene items worth £10.10 from the Co-op on December 28 last year; he used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man with intent to cause him to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against him on the same date; assaulted a man by beating him on January 3; stole lager worth £5,50 from the Co-op on February 8; wilfully obstructed a constable in the execution of his duty on February 8; and stole lager worth £5.50 from the Co-op on February 8.
Magistrates said the offences were serious and that only a custodial sentence could be justified due to the level of the threats of violence involved in one of the incidents and his record of failing to comply with non-custodial orders. There was no order for costs due to his limited means.
