A FRESH food company is delivering local organic produce to offices across the city thanks to a £10,000 lottery grant.

Love Local Food buys seasonal fruit and vegetables, organic meat and fresh bread from more than 25 local producers.

Its range also includes eggs, dairy products and pickled vegetables.

Most of the produce is grown within five miles of Exeter — all other goods are Fairtrade or ethically sourced.

Every Friday, Love Local Food's mobile shop will visit businesses on the Sowton Industrial Estate and Pynes Hill Business Park.

Emma Parkin, one of the company directors, said: "Love Local Food hopes to promote the concept of eating healthily, eating locally and eating seasonally.

"We are a group of local farmers, producers and passionate food-lovers who aim to bring a new and simple way of shopping to Exeter and the surrounding areas.

"We've had a very positive response from people working in these out-of-town business parks, where there is no opportunity to buy fresh food unless they make a special journey out of office hours.

"You can actually see the land where some of our vegetables are grown from Pynes Hill."

Martyn Bragg, a farmer from Shillingford Abbot, near Alphington, added: "The summer is one of the most exciting times of year for fresh produce.

"I'm currently growing six different types of lettuce as well as tomatoes, peppers and french beans. I'm an organic farmer and we believe less is more when it comes to food."

The £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund also allows Love Local Food to educate people about food.

Any profits the company makes will be spent on promoting healthy food to children.

The company organises a range of events — from bread-making workshops to barn dances — to encourage communities to reconnect with local food and farmers.

The mobile shop will call at Michelmores Solicitors and NHS Hexagon House on Pynes Hill; the Express & Echo offices on Sowton Industrial Estate, the park near Clyst Heath Primary School and Devon County Council's Great Moor House in Sowton.

From September, Love Local Food will also visit Stoke Hill, Beacon Heath, Whipton and Wonford.
