A £1.2 million plan to expand an Exeter school by 100 places have been given the green light.

Bowhill Primary School will increase its capacity from 420 to 525 as a result of the scheme, which is needed because of increased birth rates and housing in the Redhills area.

Some residents had objected that the places could be provided at a nearby school which has capacity at a low cost.

Devon County Council said those places would be factored in to future provision, but the Bowhill expansion was still needed to meet demand. The council's cabinet committee approved the plan.
