The abuse can be physical, emotional, verbal, sexual or financial. It can include bullying, threats, humiliation and isolation – you can experience domestic violence and abuse without having broken bones or bruises.
At least one in four women in the UK will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

In Devon the estimated annual cost of domestic violence and abuse to society is £60m.
81 per cent of Stop Abuse For Everyone clients dealt with in a six-month period were aged between 21 and 50 years old, 98 per cent were female and two-thirds were parents, 66 per cent reported abuse to the police an average of 2.8 times, 16 per cent attended Accident and Emergency, 55 per cent visited their GP on average seven times.
On average, a female is a victim for seven years prior to taking action.
In 75 to 90 per cent of incidents of domestic violence, children are in the same or the next room.
