Families flock to see lambs

FAMILIES will be flocking to Bicton College to enjoy its annual Lambing Sunday event where visitors get to meet its calves, lambs and piglets.

As well as the rare opportunity to visit its farm, there will also be the chance to have-a-go at some exciting, unusual and adrenaline pumping activities.

The fun day out at the college in East Budleigh on Sunday, March 17, from 10am to 4pm, includes tractor and trailer rides, big bug handling and sports.

There will also be the chance to feed a new-born lamb and watch afternoon milking time for the cows as well as tour the college's Environmental and Renewable Technology Hub and take a walk through the grounds.

Older children can have a go at low ropes, mountain biking or brave the tree tops lift as well as the many water activities that will be taking place on the lake.

Anyone can have a shot at being a soldier with the Are You Tough Enough? assault course, or by learning some survival skills from making a basic shelter to building a campfire.

Other fun includes wool spinning, knitting and felt-making demonstrations, holding some of the Bicton Bugs such as hissing cockroaches, giant stick insects, land snails and giant millipedes, or taking part in the family dog show and agility sessions. On site there will be plenty of food and drinks outlets, including a licensed bar.

Last year's event attracted more than 4,000 visitors with even bigger numbers anticipated for this year.

Event organiser Sarah Adam said: "It's all set to be full of fun again this year at our annual lambing Sunday. Visitors can say hello to our new lambs, piglets and calves and join in exciting activities such as kayaking, dog shows, tractor rides and equine displays. It's a perfect way to spend Sunday with family and friends."

Entry costs £5 adults, £3 children, £15 families. Dogs are allowed on the main campus, but not at the farm.
