The latest in Philippa Mold's diary

A weight gain! Even though I had expected this, it still came as a shock. Only myself and that stilton cheese to blame.

Sharon reminded us in her talk last night about the dangers and pitfalls of leftovers. She had a box shaped like a giant pair of lips and posted into them all the scraps of food that we tend to snuffle instead of consigning to the kitchen waste bin.

The half a fish finger and three chips left on the kids' dinner plates. The leftover sausage. The bit of cheese left over in the fridge. Half a broken biscuit etc etc. Her tally added up to a horrendous nine points. That's half a day's points allowance for some!

I learned that I had lost my job this morning. Such a scary thing to happen. Husband's reaction was "S*d em, let's go out tonight and tomorrow, and then we had better get used to staying home and making our own wine!" I like this man.

Must make an effort now to trim off another stone and get into interview mode. Will do this from Sunday morning in earnest.

No need to go into town this morning so we take dog for a walk in Exmouth and stop off for a cup of tea in the Harbour View. There is a lot of exposed flesh flashing around the seafront in this hot weather. All I can say is 'oh dear!' A lot of people need to lose a few pounds, including me.

Drop dog off home and we go on to Otter Nurseries where we have a salad lunch and then back in time for husband to watch the cup final and for me to do the weekly shop.

Indulge ourselves with a cream bun and some wine while watching the telly in the evening. Well, it was actually two cream scones. Each.

Well, actually, it was two cream scones each and a bar of chocolate (but this was shared with dog).

A gorgeous day and we spend it gardening and eating lollipops. Final meal out at fave hostelry where I had a chicken mayo butty with chips. No ice cream. And two halves of beer shandy. Husband was more healthy with liver and bacon.

Walked into work as usual. Really felt it in my legs due to the gardening all day yesterday. Hot too, so it was lovely not to have to bother with a coat, although this does cover up lots of flabby bits.

Mixed salad and some prawns left over from yesterday for lunch and then home to roast chicken and veg with bread sauce. Tottered out into the garden to do some more gardening and then an early night after a mug of lemon and ginger tea. Bit of a sleepless night because it was so breathlessly hot. Fell asleep eventually about 4am.

A real effort to get out of bed this morning. Walked dog and then walked into work. Phew! So hot! Must not complain though. Think of all those ice creams. Increased my walking speed to dispel ice cream thoughts.

I am going to WeightWatchers as usual tonight but feel nervous about weighing myself. I haven't been particularly off the rails, but, also, I have not been recording my food intake.

Interesting programme on the telly the other night; two people were given the same meal, but one had it as soup, and the other as a meal. The one who had the soup stayed fuller for much longer than his colleague, which surprised me. I thought it would be the other way round. So that's the answer then! Liquidise everything and drink soup. There you go!

Mentioned it to husband as he is having some tooth implants next week. Husband not impressed.

Decided not to weigh myself this week. Wimp.
