The latest in Philippa Mold's diary

Hmmm, wimped out again. My mindset is not on reducing weight at the moment, although I am eating sensibly. Still weighing pasta and rice etc.

A suggestion was made in class last night that the day's points should be counted not from the morning, but from the evening. It seems that most people consume the majority of their points in the evening, and because it is usually much easier to control points intake during the day because of work etc, it all makes perfect sense.

Consume 15 out of your daily points allowance of 20 in the evening, and it still leaves five to play with during the day. Might just be worth a go.

Nice brisk walk into work this morning. Yoghurt and fruit for breakfast and a big mixed salad with a tin of WeightWatchers tuna in tomato sauce for lunch, followed by fresh pineapple. If I cut out snacks, the whole lot comes to around six points.

Snacks are a bit problematical at the moment. It is the old BOGOF syndrome again. This time it is a surfeit of WeightWatchers cereal bars. They are only 1.5 points each, but there was a special offer — yes, buy one get one free — and I am not to be trusted with a drawer full of yummy cereal bars, not to mention assorted crisps and sweeties, even if they are low in points.

Manfully manage to eat the last two bars (three points) and decide not to buy any more for a while. Husband phones and offers me a lift home because it might rain.

Feel guilty about all the lifts home I have been having lately. Granted, I still walk the dog, but I reckon I am missing out on about two extra bonus points per day by being lazy.

Skip breakfast this morning because I am running late, which is just as well because a colleague has her birthday today and has brought in some yummy cream cakes. I have a fresh cream éclair for my breakfast (four points). My usual salad and fruit for lunch (three points).

Then into a meeting all afternoon and lo and behold! When we emerge, there are still loads of cream cakes sitting on a desktop. Spot a box of WeightWatchers mini Victoria sponges (2.5 points) and have one of those plus a slice of fresh cream Victoria sponge from Waitrose (five points). So, today, I have spent 11.5 points on cakes alone.

As we have been home in the evening all week, we go to visit fave bar steward to catch up on all the gossip. Have smoked haddock and salad with only a few chips. Husband has liver and bacon.

Points for day: 33.

Got up early to take dog to his hairdresser. Ten minutes before we were due to leave there was a huge electrical storm directly overhead plus torrential rain. Found dog behind the sofa wrapped around the standard lamp. He told me no way was he venturing out in that unless I wanted him to have a heart attack, so cancelled his appointment.

No chance of doing the gardening so we decided to visit Killerton which was very pleasant. Wandered around for a while until defeated by all the rain, so had lunch which was lovely. I had homity pie and salad, husband had the same but with veg.

Still raining when we got home so pottered all afternoon.

Had some sandwiches while watching telly in the evening washed down with some wine.

Not bad weather today. Took dog for a walk in the grounds of Killerton and sat on their terrace drinking tea and eating a pasty each. Lovely pasty. Dog, now recovered from the trauma of yesterday's storm, shared my pasty and agreed that it was jolly good. Eight points at least. Probably 10.

Not been that good a week really. Although when I weighed myself at home this morning I was 2.5lb lighter than last Sunday, which amazed me.

Managed to walk into work today in under 35 minutes which wasn't bad going. Breakfast of fruit and yoghurt followed by lunch of a salmon salad followed by grapes. Succumbed to a lift home again. Must stop this.

Spent the evening tidying up as younger son is staying over tomorrow night to look after dog while we go to Hove.

June 9, 2009

Half day at work today. Husband picks me up at 1pm and off home to get everything sorted before our journey to Hove. Husband is having five tooth implants tomorrow morning and I am needed as moral support and also to drive him home.

Arrive at our hotel at about 7pm. The lift is broken so we puff our way up to the second floor. Nice room and even nicer is the room service menu. I had intended to pack up a salad for each of us but ran out of time. Instead we chose homemade beefburger with chips and salad. Oh and a fried egg on top. The burger was sturdy to say the least, but we managed to eat the lot, followed by a pot of tea and the biscuits meant to go with the morning cuppa.

Decided against a healthy walk along the prom as it was blowing a gale and raining. At least I have avoided being weighed tonight!
