Fatty Chronicles - Part 70
June 10, 2009
The day of husband's operation! We are in Hove and it is raining. Just a cup of tea for breakfast, having eaten the biscuits provided to go with this last night. Husband too nervous to eat in any case, and I have plans for a little bit of snuffling at the trough when he is unconscious in his dentist's chair.

We arrive at the dentist early as it is still pouring with rain and we have forgotten to put an umbrella in the car. Husband is duly taken away for his implants and I nip along to a bakery to buy breakfast. Egg and mayo butties, low fat crisps, a Kit Kat and a Diet Coke. Hmm, about 15 points the lot I would say.
As it is still raining, I decide against going for a healthy walk along the seafront and return to the car to read the morning paper and eat my breakfast. Was absorbed reading all about our MPs' spending habits. Clunk! The car door opened, and there was husband. As he wasn't due out of the dentist for at least another three hours, I thought at first that he had absconded when the nurse's back was turned.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"They won't do my op because my blood pressure is way too high," was his reply.
Oh my lord! "When did you last take your blood pressure tablets?" was my not unreasonable question.
"Ummm not since February when my prescription ran out." There you go then.
I could kill him now I suppose. Save him the bother of having a heart attack at a later date.
At least I shared my breakfast with him, so the points were halved from 15 to 7.5. Off home for husband to see the doc and for me to fume at how stupid people can be sometimes.

Back to work today and walking in as usual. "How's your husband?" they all asked. It's going to take a while for him to live this down.
A lot of work to catch up on which takes my mind off husband's health. He has at least 2st to lose, so will concentrate on helping him achieve this as his blood pressure should start to decrease with his weight loss. At least it had better do so.
Probably just as well he has to lose weight as it will be good for me too.
Helped Sharon at her Teignmouth class tonight which was great fun. She produced a bag of 20 pennies to represent our day's points allowance and then told us to complete a tracker for 20 points, listing as much as we could eat. Some of them were fantastic. One can graze all day if the right choices are made.

"Have you taken your blood pressure medication?" Husband cringed and said he had, and no need to nag anymore since he will always remember to take his tablets in future.
Have porridge and honey for breakfast which sets me up until lunchtime. Must find time to have a proper breakfast every day because it makes such a difference.
Mixed salad with baked beans, sweetcorn and a cheese triangle for lunch and then, as it is Friday again, we go off to see fave bar steward and have a sensible dinner of grilled smoked haddock and salad for me and liver and bacon for husband. No chips. No ice cream.

Gorgeous day today. Up early and out to my hairdresser on the Quay. "Are you still keeping your weight off?" she inquired.
"Well, umm, I have put on a bit." About 8lb if I was honest, so stressed or not, it is back to the food plan properly.
Home to pick up husband and back into town to do some banking and shopping and then on to Otter Nurseries for lunch. Oh we are so predictable. Had a ham salad which was really nice, and then pottered all afternoon. Husband bought a blood pressure kit from the chemist and has been playing with that. Dog has hidden under the sofa.
Spent the evening watching cricket and drinking wine. No snacks this time.

Husband says his blood pressure is right down. I tell him goodoh, but not to get complacent about it — or words to that effect.
I leave quite early with my cousin and a couple of friends to visit a craft fair at Wincanton Racecourse. We spend a happy three hours there in blazing sunshine, but, after seeing the queue at the snack bar, we wished we'd brought lunch with us. We persevered with the queue as they had some particularly appetising cake for sale. Ended up, after 20 minutes, with a cheese and salad sandwich and a slice (big) of Victoria sandwich to share with cousin.
Got home at about 5pm. Husband looked a bit forlorn at being left on his own all day, so offered to treat him to a roast dinner at fave hostelry.
Points for day: a not too bad 23. Extra points earned on pedo: four.

Quite nervous this morning as I have a job interview first thing. Decide to have a good breakfast as there is nothing worse than having a loudly rumbling belly when being interviewed. Porridge and honey with a yoghurt did the trick.
Walked to my interview which went well. Then I walked into work so have already clocked up five points on my pedo.
Was amazed at how effective the porridge was. Didn't feel hungry at all until lunchtime.
The heavens opened during the afternoon and I had to make a huge detour on my walk home to avoid a lake which had formed at the bottom of the footpath. Have managed to clock up nine extra points on my pedo today, so, since husband's blood pressure was nicely down, we went to visit fave hostelry for another roast (no potatoes, double veg) and a pint.
Points consumed: 19.

My legs felt quite tired on my walk into work today. Probably because of the extra miles I did yesterday. Big mixed salad with a tin of WeightWatchers tuna for lunch, followed by some fresh pineapple. I feel reasonably confident about my weigh-in tonight.
A-ha! I was very pleased that my weight is the same as when I last weighed myself. Still 8lbs up overall, but at least I have stopped the rot, so to speak. Off to tell fave bar steward about it over a jacket potato and salad.
