The latest in Philippa Mold’s diary

I know I should have weighed in last night, but since I know it would have shown a gain, I wimped out. Very easy to be head in sand and I must stop it. I will.

Too much food tempting me all the time. Thought about this while walking into work today. The only thing to do is to clear the shelves at home of all unsuitable items, and to restock them with things which are only good and healthy.

Best to leave this task until the end of August, since the grandsons will be descending on us, like a swarm of locusts, at various times over the holiday period. This means I can probably solve the shelf clearance problem relatively easily!

As two grandsons are staying over this Friday and Saturday night, I can make a good start. I have some beef burgers which never got as far as the barbecue last weekend and a pack of sausages so I will begin with these.

Usual walk into work this morning. I don’t think that brisk walking is going to help me this weekend, but it is a start. Have a sensible lunch of a mixed salad and some WeightWatchers tuna in tomato and herb sauce.

Husband picked me up from work so I could get some bits and pieces, including a large pizza, before the grandsons arrived.

Cook an amazing amount for dinner. The grandsons had three burgers each in two burger buns plus baked beans and potato wedges. All followed by a bowl of ice cream. I was very impressed.

Spent the evening sorting out the grandsons’ room. No pub or wine or chocolate. Did have some leftover cold wedges.

Up really early as have a hairdressing appointment. Left husband, dog and grandsons all snoring away. We are going into town for breakfast on my return.

Hair sorted, we stop off at the Milkmaid for tea and toast. Husband goes on home since he has the footie to watch later in the day, and grandsons and I browse our way through the library and assorted shops till it’s time to go to the movies. Stopped off to buy some toffee popcorn and pop, and then off to watch the Ice Age Dinosaurs.

Armed with the 3D glasses which were handed to us on our way in, we had a great time. I did, especially, because of the popcorn.

Back home to prepare a tea of a giant pizza and loads of sausages. Dog and husband very happy at the prospect of this. Grandsons ate all the pizza and only a couple of dozen sausages. Dog and husband had the rest. I had a chicken and mayonnaise sandwich.

Spent the rest of the evening watching cartoons and eating squidgy things, apparently they are the latest craze. Haribo something?

Up early to go car booting. We wandered around for a couple of hours looking for suitable gifts for grandsons’ parents. Found a glittery heart on a chain for mum but nothing suitable for dad –— only some old plimsolls but they were not in his size.

Car booting over, we all piled in the car and went off to Exmouth. The wind was at gale force, so we abandoned all thoughts of football on the beach and headed into the café for lunch. Burger and chips for the grandsons and bacon butties for husband and me. Dog scored on the leftover bacon.

Bought the grandsons some ice cream at a hut on the esplanade, just as the wind picked up to gale force horrendous. Middle grandson screeched because his ice cream was sand blasted. Told him to eat it anyway. He did have a point though; his ice looked as if black pepper had been shaken all over it.

Dropped grandsons back to their house and we went on to visit a friend for supper. Cottage pie and peas. No room for pudding. Dog is out on his feet after a weekend of hardly any sleep. Went to bed at 10pm, exhausted. Got up at midnight to look for the indigestion tablets.

Back to normal! Brisk walk into work with a healthy salad for lunch followed by a banana.

Walked home again too just to try to burn up a few calories. Did weigh myself at home and have put on a couple of pounds. No surprise there.

Chicken curry for dinner followed by a lollipop.

My skirt is feeling a bit tight so must concentrate on counting and recording my food points. Porridge for breakfast before walking to work. Salad for lunch. Undecided about weighing in tonight.

Made the decision not to weigh myself, will probably regret this. Go to fave hostelry to discuss with fave bar steward. Had chips.
