A scene from Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire
For the first time in its history the society will be showing a filmed ballet, Romeo and Juliet, and the Oscar-nominated Persepolis. The animated film is based on writer and co-director Marjane Satrapi's semi-autobiographical graphic novels, about a young Iranian girl growing up during the Islamic Revolution.
The programme also includes contemporary drama such as I've Loved You So Long about a woman slowly revealing the tragedy that has scarred her life. Others planned include the classic Some Like It Hot and the multi-Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire.
The films will be shown in Matthews Hall on Fridays with matinee and evening performances.
The society has around 200 members and anyone wishing to join can download a membership form from the website www.topshamfilmsociety.co.uk.
